Summer is still very upon us Down Under, with the southern states only just beginning to catch some rays! This means there is still plenty of time to enjoy the Aussie outdoors with your doggo, and you know just how much they love the summer time!
Playing with your dog inside and out is imperative to their health, alongside feeding them well, taking them to the vet and getting them the best pet insurance (among other things!).
But what do our dogs like to do in the summer? It’s pretty straightforward, so let’s take a look at them below:
- Get to the beach
Because dogs love the beach so much and especially when it’s hot, there is no better time for them to get down there than in summer. Why? Because not only can they cool off with a refreshing (and supervised) dip, but they can also meet plenty of likeminded pooches that are there to do the exact same thing!
Dogs love meeting other dogs, so there is no better place for them to have a play with other pooches than at the beach in summer – plus they get to have a nice swim afterwards.
- Go for walks
We don’t know about your dogs, but ours seem to get that little bit extra excited when they know they’re going for a walk in summer. Maybe dogs just feel that summer vibe the same way humans do, when they can’t wait to get out into the warmth, take in the sun’s goodness and experience some nice outdoors time.
Dogs absolutely rush to their leads when it’s time to go for a summer walk, and many of them jump at the opportunity to go for multiple walks in the one day. You just have to be sure that they are plenty hydrated, and get them some water if you notice them panting excessively! Consider bringing a cooling pad for cats or dogs so your pet has a place to chill, literally.
- Playing in the garden
Because dogs are a lot like their owners, they don’t exactly love going outside when it’s super chilly. Australia can get pretty frightful in the winter months, so it can be hard to get dogs outside even to do their business.
The same goes for playing: there is nothing better than seeing your dog leaping and jumping for joy in the garden and on the warm grass. They get particularly stoked when they find all kinds of fascinating bugs to chase as well as little nooks and crannies to explore.
- Vacays!
Dogs, like us humans, love to explore, and they especially enjoy exploring new places. Dogs are so great to take on vacations as they basically force us to get active and actually check out the place we are visiting.
Oh, you wanted to sit around your campsite all day? Nope, you have to take your dog for a walk along the beach first. You wanted to sit around all cosy in that AirBNB cabin? Nup, you’ve gotta take the dog for a fern forest walk!
This is all part of the joy of taking your dog on vacation – it’s a win-win for everyone!
- Picnics
Doggos love coming along for picnics. They get to meet our friends, frolic in the park and annoy people that are sitting at pretty much the same height as them. So long as they’re somewhat behaved, taking your dog along for a summer picnic can be one of the most enjoyable experiences you can have with your furry friend!
