Two Months Out

Believe it or not, there is work to be done two months before a move. This work is mostly organizational/earmarking stuff. Still, it’s labor that’s best not ignored.

We recommend going through your house and giving it a solid clean, similar to how you would do before a big party. As you do this, start noting items that you’re going to throw out or donate and set them aside.

One Month Out

With only four weeks left until your move, it’s time to start contacting moving companies. We recommend having at least three quotes from various options in your area before choosing a partner.

In addition to quotes, be sure to assess your mover’s reputation. Looking at their online reviews or talking to people that have worked with them in the past is a great way to do that.

Two Weeks Out

With just two weeks to spare before you relocate, your when to start packing for a move trajectory should have you gathering packing materials, labeling boxes based on whose things they’re going to be carrying, and throwing out/donating all items you earmarked weeks earlier.

Furthermore, any very valuable items should be packed into a special box and that box should be moved off property. We recommend putting the box in storage or leaving it at a friend or family member’s house.

Moving Week

Seven days out from your moving date means things should start going into boxes and boxes should start moving to the garage so your moving company can easily lift them into their truck.

If you’re paying somebody to box your things, this step need not apply. Know though, that by packing wine glasses and other simple things, you’ll save money.
